The Silence Before the Fire

There are stories we shouldn't have to write. Only silences we’re forced to translate. I read about a fire today.  A mother. Three children. A house that turned into a question no one knows how to answer. The most dangerous thing about depression is not how loud it screams, but how politely it knocks. It comes dressed like fatigue. Like waiting. Like trying one more time.  Until one day, it forgets to knock—and burns the door down instead. No one chooses to become unrecognizable. But pain does that. Not in sudden, cinematic moments—but in hours no one sees. When a woman looks in the mirror and no longer sees a mother, a daughter, a wife—just a thing that hurts too loudly to exist quietly. And what do we do? We wait. We say, “Let’s talk tomorrow.” We say, “Kaya mo ‘yan.” We say, “Magdasal ka.” And then we look away. We build systems that take reports but not responsibility. We believe in due process but not in urgency. We leave people at the edge and call it patie...

The Tension Between Hope and Despair

This is w here the light breaks just to drown. Hope isn’t some pretty thing. It’s a slow burn that keeps you awake at night, fooling you with a whisper, “Maybe this time.” It digs its claws in, even when everything screams you’re done. Hope’s the hook you can’t shake, even when it’s tearing you apart from the inside. Despair doesn’t wait politely. It crashes in like a storm, cold and sharp, and it doesn’t care if you’re ready or not. It doesn’t dance with hope—they fight. It’s brutal, ugly. Despair wants to swallow everything whole, leaves no room for mercy. There’s no peace between them. It’s a war you didn’t sign up for, but you live it every damn day—grasping for that fragile flicker, even as the darkness tightens around your throat. You hold hope like a lifeline but feel despair pulling the knot tighter. No balance. No graceful dance. Just a mess of broken promises and shattered dreams. Hope keeps you chasing ghosts; despair waits, patient, knowing it will win. And the worst p...

The Art of Being Unseen

I remember the night I stopped resisting the dark—the moment I let the shadows fold me in like a cloak, heavier than grief and colder than loneliness. It wasn’t surrender. It was survival. When the world’s light scorches too bright for a soul already cracked, sometimes disappearing feels like the only refuge left. To be unseen is not mercy. It is exile without borders, a slow erasure traced in invisible ink. You become a ghost in your own life—there but forgotten, present but hollow, a whisper no one listens for. The ache isn’t in being alone, but in knowing you’re erased, erased with such precision that even memory begins to doubt you existed. Invisibility is not absence; it is a wound disguised as silence. There’s a brutal kind of violence in invisibility. It is not peace. It’s a wound kept open to the cold silence, a place where no one cares to search. Being unseen means you live on the edge of absence, your name forgotten like a language no one speaks anymore. And yet, from thi...

Whispers

At the peak of midnight where its solemnly silent, in the mysterious realm of the night, where darkness veils the world, my thoughts take shape, unraveling like a tapestry of ominous reflections. Shadows dance, weaving intricate patterns that mirror the complexities of my inner self. Sometimes, within this nocturnal sanctuary, I find solace. Happiness blossoms briefly, suspended in the delicate threads of thought. In those moments, simplicity reigns, and I feel liberated from the burdens of the day. Yet, more often than not, the descent into night brings despair. The breath of morning carries suffocating tendrils, weaving invisible shackles that entangle my spirit. Reasons for this anguish elude me, like distant whispers lost in the wind. Stagnation grips me tightly, and respite feels elusive. I am drawn into a swirling vortex, a void of inertia. Lost amidst fragmented thoughts and vacant gazes, I float aimlessly, trapped in an unfathomable realm. The shattered mirrors of my mind refle...

Echoes of Despair

Despair doesn’t knock. It just enters, creeping through the cracks in your mind, sliding into every thought, every breath, until it feels like it’s always been there. You never see it coming. One moment, everything feels normal, or at least bearable. And then, like a thief in the night, it’s there—silent but suffocating. It wraps itself around your chest, makes it hard to breathe, and the more you try to push it away, the stronger its hold becomes. It doesn’t announce its presence with any grand gestures, no dramatic flare. It’s subtle, sneaky even. Maybe it starts with a moment of confusion, a fleeting thought you can’t shake. Or perhaps it’s the weight of a thousand little disappointments, stacking up until you can no longer ignore their presence. Each new layer presses down harder, until it becomes your only reality. The world becomes distant, almost irrelevant. The faces you see every day, the voices you hear, they seem muffled and unreal, as if they’re happening in another worl...

Mercy in the Machine

I used to believe in karma—naïve, I know. That moral ledger balancing debts and credits, handing out justice on time. Turns out, karma’s broken. Or maybe it never existed, just a myth we told ourselves to sleep at night. The worst people don’t just slip through the cracks. They built the cracks. They thrive in the ruins, stacking money on the bones of those who trusted them. It’s not a game anymore. It’s a machine—greedy, ruthless, and programmed to reward the cruelest operators. The bad don’t just get ahead—they consume whole worlds, leaving scraps for the rest. And here we are, pretending fairness is around the corner while the cold truth settles in: the world belongs to those who take without guilt, who use without mercy. Kindness is weakness. Empathy, a liability. The soul is currency no one wants to buy. Sometimes I wonder if the good are just ghosts in this system—forgotten, erased, slowly fading into silence while the vultures feast. No grand justice is coming. No reckonin...

The Illusion of Bliss

In the depths of darkness, he feels alone Missing his purpose, his heart a stone In the night sky, he searches for a sign Sorrow weighs heavy, like a burden divine Spiraling down, lost in his own abyss Yearning for a glimmer of hope, a moment of bliss Overwhelmed by the weight of his despair Unsure if anyone truly cares Loneliness consumes him, a constant ache Numbness sets in, his emotions fake Arms stretched out, he calls out in the dark Restless heart seeking a spark Kneeling down, he whispers to the moon Intertwining fingers, he feels less marooned Nurtured by the lunar light, he begins to see Dawn breaking forth, the start of a jubilee Reborn in hope, he stands once more Eyes shining with a new fervor newly strengthened, he faces the night Driven by the knowledge that all will be right.

Caffeinated and Nicotined Thoughts

In a fraction of a millisecond When all the light has disappeared Gazing at a barren page of an endless fantasy sickened by the filth of autonomous reasoning wondering, if thoughts can be leashed. Hoping hearts can be locked, And life be painted black. Apathy seems to be reasonable, Faith torn, Trust and its thorns, I failed to see How blind can one be? That I am falling from this plight, Pulling people down to oblivion. Cornucopia of meaningless actualization Sinking down to damnation. Pencil sketches of emotions once had With every line drawn manifests pain, Every curve reveals a dying soul, Every smudge discloses the filthy self. Harmonic rhythm strummed, Each note expresses repressed prayers Each pluck conveys a melodious quandary Chord transitions leading to a song of tragedy. Poetic inscriptions on parched wood, Every word, filled with subliminal truths, Every rhyme filled with drowning promises, Caring for things to divert this reality As I speak the language of my dreams, A d...

Sucker

There are moments when life throws us into chaos. Despite our efforts to maintain a positive outlook, some instances push us to our limits. Suddenly, it feels like we're staring at our own reflection, where darkness engulfs the itsy-bitsy light that we are so desperately trying to ignite. It's disheartening...  In this state of condemnation and self-judgment,  as we struggle to make sense of it all,  we find ourselves consumed by angst and painful realizations.  No matter how hard we try to mend things, there are unforeseen circumstances where destruction triumphs over creation. Perhaps it's due to our limitations,  our inherent inadequacies that we persist in trying to fix what's broken. But more often than not, our attempts only result in shattering it further, leaving us with countless irreparable fragments.  Maybe they're right;  I seem to destroy everything I touch. I can't help but question what is wrong with me. I feel like a forsaken soul, ...

Mad World: Tears for Fears Reflections

There’s a pervasive sadness that wraps around me every time I listen to "Mad World" by Tears for Fears. The song, with its melancholic tones and deeply introspective lyrics, seems to echo the quiet despair that I sometimes feel, tapping into an emotional landscape that is both familiar and disquieting. From the moment the first notes play, I’m drawn into a world of desolation. “ All around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn out faces.” These words hit me with a profound sense of recognition. It feels like I’m being invited into a reflection of my own world—a space that seems increasingly repetitive and devoid of vibrancy. I see the same weary expressions on the faces around me, the same worn-out settings that no longer offer the comfort they once did. This sense of monotony resonates with my own experiences, where the daily grind often feels like a never-ending loop, each day blending into the next with little distinction. The refrain—“ This is a mad world ”—is a h...

Between Moonlight and Daybreak: The Quiet Curse of Dreamers and Thinkers

There are moments when we realize that the things we’ve done in the past were better left undone, words left unsaid, thoughts better kept in our brains, and emotions that should’ve stayed in that dark and hollow part of our souls. It would’ve been more favorable if it were as such,  rather than leave us in disarray and turmoil.    In your damnation, you think of the hurt,  and think of the depression,  and finally,  just think. The curse of the thinker is that everything appears to be ambiguous,  making everything as a conundrum to be solved.  He gets so engrossed with his ideas that sometimes,  he cannot identify what is real from what is not.  Making sense about almost everything, but few people understands him. The curse of the dreamer is that, there will come a time when they have to wake up from their slumber,  a juncture where hope is abandoned and be ensnared by the idea that dreams never really happen. Inevitably, the light ...
